Cue the Peaches and Herb.

ESPN True Hoop’s Marc Stein is reporting Indiana Pacers forward David West, two-time NBA All-star, will be receiving a lot of interest from the Los Angeles Clippers come the summertime.

The Pacers’ veteran leader openly loves his situation in Indiana, which certainly gives Indy justified cause for optimism when it comes to re-signing the 32-year-old this summer. Yet the whispers are already swirling that Chris Paul’s Los Angeles Clippers, in particular, are going to make a hard run at West in the offseason.

[...]

But you have to figure that the former Hornet — who rose to All-Star prominence playing alongside CP3 — is going to want to hear the details of a proposal pitching a reunion with his old point guard … as long as Paul himself, of course, has decided to stay. If Paul re-signs with the Clips as most league insiders continue to expect, L.A. will then be seeking to add the final piece or two to cement itself as a contender with some staying power.

via Los Angeles Clippers eyeing David West ? – ESPN

This is either one of the three things: The Clippers either think David West takes them to the next level or they know that bringing in someone that Chris Paul loves and is familiar heightens their chances of him re-signing or Chris Paul is back to his old tricks of recruiting players to come play with him in LA (see Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, Chauncey Billups). The latter seems like the more viable option. Paul and West played together on the New Orleans Hornets for six seasons, making the playoffs in three of those seasons. West will be an un-resticted free agent heading into the summer. The Clippers can likely offer West the non-taxpayer mid-level exception or $5.15 million. His current team, the Indiana Pacers, can likely offer him more to keep their core together for at least two more years.

But how would this work? David West has shown throughout the playoffs (averaging 15.5 points, 7 rebounds) that he still has the talents to be a starting forward in this league, so would he be willing to take a reserve role to improve the Clippers? He’ll bring his leadership abilities, but if Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan couldn’t put up with Chris Paul’s “voice” the pairing will hate West. And speaking of DeAndre Jordan who complained about his lack of playing time (and Vinny Del Negro burying him on the bench), he’ll likely get less playing time unless foul trouble comes into play.

Despite the situation being ideal for West, can anyone see him walking away from the Pacers? They’re currently in the Eastern Conference finals and the core pieces, Paul George, Roy Hibbert, Lance Stephenson and George Hill, are only getting better. Obviously the Miami Heat are a huge hurdle he could skip over, but this Pacers team future is bright, maybe brighter than the Clippers. But if Chris Paul can get West to come west, then the Clippers are two-times better than they were when the season ended.

This could be a game changer.

ESPN Insider Joe Kaiser reports that the New Orleans <del>Hornets</del> Pelicans and Los Angeles Clippers may be in talks to bring guard Eric Gordon back to LA in a blockbuster trade in exchange for Eric Bledsoe.

There is sure to be plenty of buzz in the weeks and months to come about the future of New Orleans shooting guard Eric Gordon and Los Angeles Clippers point guard Eric Bledsoe. Today, Michael McNamara of BourbonStreetShots.com tweets that the two teams could already be considering a deal that involves the both of them.

McNamara tweets: “Off air with Clippers writer, he said he has heard a lot of buzz from FO sources that a Bledsoe/(DeAndre) Jordan for EG/(Robin) Lopez deal could go down.”

via Clips, Pelicans considering blockbuster? – ESPN Insider

There’s no surprise that the Clippers front office is already pushing to trade Bledsoe with his value is as high as ever right now, but a trade to bring back the player the Clippers selected with the seventh overall in the 2008 NBA Draft would be a huge shocker. There’s no doubting Eric Gordon the player. In 240 career games he’s averaged 18.6 points per game, but knee injuries have kept him from reaching his max potential. As far as Robin Lopez, he eliminates all the negatives that came with DeAndre Jordan: being a liability to play in the fourth quarter.

A straight-up Bledsoe/Jordan for Gordon/Lopez doesn’t work due to cap issues so some other pieces would have to be thrown in from the Clippers end to make the deal fit. Here’s what I came up with using ESPN’s Trade Machine:

Obviously this is just a rumor right now so you can approach this with caution, but the idea of a Paul-Gordon-Griffin “Big 3″ is something that could get the Clippers faithful excited for next season.
