Boom Dizzle Fizzle: Davis Out

AUTHOR: | IN: Baron Davis, Cavaliers, Clippers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

When the Carmelo Anthony swap finally happened, I was relieved. When the Deron Williams mortar shell of a trade was lobbed onto us with no warning, I was as shocked as Deron was when HE found out from watching TV. But this? THIS is mind boggling; I wake up to find that the Clippers are shipping surly-vet-turned-ebullient-teacher Baron Davis out for Mo Williams and small forward Jamario Moon of the floundering Cleveland Cavaliers. On the surface, this might look like another hare-brained move by a front office well known for it’s history of questionable decisions. Baron Davis was playing some of [...]

Clippers vs Cavaliers: Slump Buster

AUTHOR: | IN: Baron Davis, Blake Griffin, Cavaliers, Clippers, Eric Bledsoe | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well. It’s a fact of the universe. Everything ends. The Cavaliers started the season in style, beating the defending Eastern Conference champs and as late as 3 weeks into the season were a “see we’re not THAT bad!” 5-7. Everything ends; from November 27th until tonight’s 126-119 OT outlasting of the suddenly shaky Clippers, the Cavs only had 1 other win in 55 days, slogging through the record setting, soul sucking 26 game losing streak you may have heard about. I can’t say I’m shocked that the Clippers dropped this game; they are a putrid 4-19 on the road, missing their leading scorer Eric Gordon, and [...]

Top 10 Most Hopeful Clipper Moments Of The Decade… Though None Panned Out

AUTHOR: | IN: Baron Davis, Blake Griffin, Bulls, Cavaliers, Chris Kaman, Clippers, DeAndre Jordan, Donald Sterling, Eric Gordon, Heat, Jazz, Knicks, Lakers, Nuggets, Sixers, Suns, Timberwolves, Trailblazers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Being a Clipper fan is not about rooting for a winning team.  It’s about hope.  Praying things will get better.  Thus to look back at this past decade, I present The Top 10 Most Hopeful Clipper Moments.  Of course, as you’ll see below, every time of hope… has been followed by disaster. 1.  The decade started off with a bang for Clipper fans.  Yes, Lamar Odom was drafted in 1999, but it was in January 2000 that he had his most productive month: 19.1 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists on 47% shooting.  Other highlights from his rookie year?  He [...]

Clippers Almost Sleep Through One O’Clock Game, Yet Beat Memphis Grizzles

AUTHOR: | IN: Baron Davis, Cavaliers, Chris Kaman, Clippers, Craig Smith, Eric Gordon, Grizzlies, Rasual Butler | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

No, there was no power shortage at the Clippers’ hotel that prevented their alarm clocks from waking them up.  They weren’t told the game would be later & thus had to scramble.  Nor did some foul fiend slip the whole team mickeys to knock ‘em out.  The game was in L.A., so they weren’t all in the same hotel and of course didn’t all eat together, so that rules out foul play from an outsider.  The team was even at the court on-time to prepare beforehand, yet somehow they still managed to sleepwalk through nearly 40 minutes of the game. [...]

11 Things For Which A Los Angeles Clippers’ Fan Can Be Thankful

AUTHOR: | IN: Baron Davis, Blake Griffin, Bucks, Cavaliers, Celtics, Chris Kaman, Clippers, Craig Smith, Donald Sterling, Eric Gordon, Hawks, Heat, Magic, Timberwolves | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

No sugar coating: we’ve had a sad start to the season due to injuries to two key players and disappointing loses.  However, while some view being a Clipper fan as a form of self-masochism (and not in that kinky fun way), really being a Clipper fan is all about hope.  About faith.  About believing things will get better.  We refuse to give up, and somehow we always believe that tomorrow will bring better days.  That if we gut it out, our day will come, and ohhh, then it will be all the sweeter (ie. see Red Sox; Winning World Series [...]

Fantastical Choices, Part I: Pre-Draft

AUTHOR: | IN: Blake Griffin, Cavaliers, Heat, Hornets | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

My fantasy bball league recently had their draft, and I’m gonna go thru it, round by round, analyzing everyone’s choices. For those who play fantasy & want specifics: we have a 12-team head-to-head league with 9 stats. The 9th stat is FTM (Free Throws Made), not turnovers, but the other 8 are the standard ones (pts, rebs, assists, ft%, fg%, stls, blks & 3pters Made). Note that any criticism (or praise) is based solely on the knowledge that was available at the time. For instance, we only learned after the draft that Blake Griffin would be out for the first [...]

News From Around The League: Pacman Jonesin’ pictures Brian Scalabrine as l’il orphan Annie.  Also, due to the “massive” controversy of their Top 25 TV Characters In History, it’s been expanded to the Top 100.  Here is part II and III.   It seems like every character from Arrested Development, The Wire & Seinfeld will be on the list.  Lastly, they’ve also got a nice report on the brouhaha that’s brewing about Jailboy ref Tim Donaghy’s proposed book.  Note: It turns out that it was a false report that Tim Donaghy is the illegitimate half-brother of Jack Donaghy from 30 Rock. NBA Team-By-Team Final Thoughts As Season Starts, Part I

Atlanta – Their D wasn’t quite up to snuff in the pre-season.  Jamal Crawford needs to find his way.  And I’m not sure this team has the drive to take it to the next level. Boston – ‘Sheed’s crazy to think they could win 72+ games.  No way Doc would be dumb enough to run his starters that hard.  He’s realized it’s a marathon & not a sprint, so I expect Doc to rest his old guys as much as possible.  Still not convinced that KG will be his old self rather than his elderly self.  With that and lingering [...]

My If-The-Playoffs-Were-Now Ranking

AUTHOR: | IN: Baron Davis, Blake Griffin, Bobcats, Bucks, Bulls, Cavaliers, Celtics, Clippers, DeAndre Jordan, Eric Gordon, General NBA, Grizzlies, Hawks, Heat, Hornets, Jazz, Kings, Knicks, Lakers, Magic, Mavericks, Nets, Nuggets, Pacers, Pistons, Rankings, Raptors, Rockets, Sixers, Spurs, Suns, Thunder, Timberwolves, Trailblazers, Warriors, Wizards | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Okay, some people just call ‘em Power Rankings or Team Rankings, but I ain’t some people.  I’m just one people.  Er, person.  Anyway, the reason I’ve phrased it as such is ‘cuz I definitely think some teams will take a bit to round in shape (like how the Spurs regularly gear up in the second half of the season), versus others will come out & steadily play the same throughout the season.  And of course there obviously will be injuries and trades throughout the season, so who knows how things will end up?  Thus this is just my view of [...]
