Fantasy Basketball Draft Analysis: Red Hot Six
Welcome to the penultimate part, aka part six of what will eventually be a seven part article. This is the analysis of a fantasy bball draft, based on what I thought at the time of the draft. However, it happened so long ago that it no longer is about who made the best choices, but rather whether I was right or wrong in thinking they made solid choices. Anyway, as a reminder again, those players with a (K) next to their names are keepers, thus making them pretty much all good choices so they won’t be analyzed. Round 10 1. [...]
No sugar coating: we’ve had a sad start to the season due to injuries to two key players and disappointing loses. However, while some view being a Clipper fan as a form of self-masochism (and not in that kinky fun way), really being a Clipper fan is all about hope. About faith. About believing things will get better. We refuse to give up, and somehow we always believe that tomorrow will bring better days. That if we gut it out, our day will come, and ohhh, then it will be all the sweeter (ie. see Red Sox; Winning World Series [...]
We now continue with my examination of my fantasy basketball draft. In case you missed ‘em, here are the earlier bits: Part I, Part II & Part III. I seem to babbling more and more, so this time we’re down to an analysis of only one round. Anyway, same rules/caveats as usual: -Players with a “(K)” next to their name were Keepers so they pretty much won’t be discussed ‘cuz they’re usually darn good. -These comments are based on how I felt at the time of our draft. Meaning no one knew Brandon Jennings would score 55 points & be [...]
This second part got delayed, so some of the initial thoughts I wrote below have already changed, so in brackets I have my revised thoughts also for The Trailblazers & The Wizards. If you missed the first part, check here. Milwaukee – Everyone’s talked about how awful this team will be after they gave away Richard Jefferson, Charlie Villanueva & Ramon Sessions, but we all forgot one thing. Scott Skiles is a damn good defensive coach. Yes, eventually his players grow tired of him, but before that happens he’s great at making his guys give it all on every single [...]
My If-The-Playoffs-Were-Now Ranking
Okay, some people just call ‘em Power Rankings or Team Rankings, but I ain’t some people. I’m just one people. Er, person. Anyway, the reason I’ve phrased it as such is ‘cuz I definitely think some teams will take a bit to round in shape (like how the Spurs regularly gear up in the second half of the season), versus others will come out & steadily play the same throughout the season. And of course there obviously will be injuries and trades throughout the season, so who knows how things will end up? Thus this is just my view of [...]
Maybe as few as 11 jobs left for ’09-’10 season
This is for those who haven’t been checking Part I and Part II of my post on the remaining roster spots available (Note: I’ve been updating those posts constantly as soon as new signings occur). With the sucky economy, many teams will likely keep the league mandated minimum of 13 players on their roster this year. 22 of the 30 teams in the league have already hit that mark. Six of those teams have 14 players. Five other teams have 15 players. However, since some teams, like the Nuggets, Magic & Trailblazers, all need at least two players to hit [...]
Clippers’ Schedule
The ’09-’10 NBA schedule was released yesterday, and everyone seems to be pouring over it to glean any information possible (although more likely it’s just that NBA news has died down and writers are scrounging for anything they can find). In the spirit of having nothing better to say, I give you the following tidbits: -This year the Clips are on national tv eight times! Seems more than just the Clipper Nation think the team will improve and be interesting this year. Thank you Blake Griffin! -By comparison, Houston does not have a single game on national tv (presumably because [...]
Top NBA Free Agents Available, Part II
[Last updated: 9/26 **No teams under the 13 player minimum anymore!! With the last few remaining restricted agents having signed 1 yr deals, the rosters are almost completely signed. Some of the below may get invited to a training camp where they will struggle (& possibly succeed) at making the team. Likely the only remaining free agents that have potential to make some impact are: Wally Szczerbiak, Jamal Tinsley, Carlos Arroyo, Ime Udoka & Jerry Stackhouse (who's supposedly looked great at Atlanta's summer league).] Okay, as we covered in Part I, there are only about 23-38 [0-3] NBA roster spots [...]
[Last updated: 9/25. **No teams under the 13 player minimum anymore!!] Okay, this ended up longer than I intended, so it’s gonna be a 2-parter. The first part today is gonna go over how many spots remain out there for each and every team. The second part will show who’s available and their position in the NBA rat race (out of the rats that’re still running for a contract). And now, Part I… While there are still a few big names available, there’s also tons of solid NBA talent available. Thing is, all these guys who played in the league [...]
Clippers Let Mike Taylor Go! (& salary cap explanations)
Good thing I didn’t choose Mike Taylor as one of my first players to profile on the Clips, ‘cuz he’s gone. In a side note on an ESPN article about the Bucks waiving Bruce Bowen, I found this tiny mention of Taylor (along with others): Bowen was one of five NBA players waived Friday, joining Boston guard Gabe Pruitt, Los Angeles Clippers guard Mike Taylor, Los Angeles Lakers swingman Sun Yue and fellow Buck Salim Stoudamire. One’s first thought is that it must be for financial reasons, but nope, Taylor was due the minimum salary for a one-year player, $736,420. [...]
