For opening night, the Clippers will be presented an opportunity to briefly revenge their Western Conference semi-finals 4-2 series loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Prior to the playoffs, the Clippers and Thunder split the season series 2-2. These teams aren’t necessarily rivals, but there are few matchups in the NBA that lend to a higher quality of play than this one. With the San Antonio Spurs the defending champions, the fight for second place in the Western Conference will kick off here.
With the Lakers, the NBA is in position to capitalize on a marquee rivalry before it sours as the season progresses. Not to wish ill on any, but with the health of Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant teetering the last few years, it’s best to place them against high quality competition early on and there may not be a better matchup that illicit views because of last years matchups than Clippers-Lakers.
For the first time in a calendar year, the Clippers will be facing off against Kobe Bryant. That alone makes this an interesting matchup as Bryant’s return is a heavily publicized event–many are anxious to see if the future Hall of Famer can return to his pre-injury form. Once you add last year’s opening night matchup between these two clubs where the Lakers spoiled the hypothetical changing of the guard, this is a primetime matchup.
Once the remainder of the Clippers schedule releases, we’ll be sure to deliver it.
