Report: Clippers to hold meeting with Trevor Ariza

Small forward interest number two.

Prior to free agency beginning, it was widely reported the Clippers would display interest in unrestricted free agent small forward Trevor Ariza. As soon as 12:00 P.M. hit, the organization wasted no time as they have set up a meeting Ariza, one of their firsts.

It’s hard to see Ariza ending up a Clipper. He fits the bill of player they are urgently looking for, can defend and create his own shot from time to time, but the price tag may be far out of the franchises hand. And with the Clippers capped in space, there’s no room for him on the roster; that is, unless the Clippers find someone to dump the contracts of Jared Dudley, Matt Barnes, and Jamal Crawford onto.

Whatever Ariza makes this offseason, he’ll have earned it after displaying outstanding play in what many often refer to as a “career year”–it’s assumed that players make sure to play well in the last year of their deal order to reap the benefits in free agency. With the Washington Wizards, Ariza averaged 14.4 points on 45% shooting (40% from three) along with 6.5 rebounds per game.

With Ariza and Clippers star Chris Paul having played together as members of the then-New Orleans Hornets, Arash Markazi of ESPN expects CP3 to reach out to the forward in hopes of Ariza agreeing to play in Los Angeles.

As mentioned in the third ‘graf, there’s a lot of competition for Ariza’s services. Here is a list of teams that have contacted Ariza’s camp an hour and 30 minutes into free agency.
