2014 Clippers NBA Mock Draft Roundup 3.0

NBA Mock Draft — With Joel Embiid injured and out for the next four to six months, draft experts scrambled to update their mock drafts, making huge changes to the top half of the NBA lottery. But in the Los Angeles Clippers case little changed. With Darren Collison, Glen Davis, and Danny Granger all expecting to opt out, that opens three spots on the roster that could possibly use a quick, cheap fixing and there’s no better way to address that than during the NBA Draft.

Despite the Clippers looking to trade up, there could be loads of value left by time the 28th pick is on the clock. It’ll just take great scouting for the franchise to find a player who can immediately step in and contribute to a potential championship team.

Here is the collection of the latest mock drafts from around the NBA pertaining to the Clippers and the 28th overall pick.

NBA Draft Net – F Jermai Grant (Syracuse)

Basketball Insiders (Steven Kyler) – F K.J. McDaniels (Clemson)

Draft Express - G Jordan Clarkson (Missouri)

Backup point guard Darren Collison possesses a player option on his contract this summer that would make him a free agent, and considering how well he’s played this season relative to his salary (1.9 million), it would be surprising to see him not opt out. With that said, the Clippers could look to address what could become a position of need soon. Clarkson is big enough to play both guard positions and can hopefully be a consistent enough shooter to space the floor adequately for the Clippers’ ball-dominant stars.

Fox Sports - C Patric Young (Florida)

Not real skilled, but will rebound and add toughness.

NBA.com - F Mitch McGary (Michigan)

McGary is expected to begin working out for teams next week as part of his recovery from a serious back injury. If he does well in the limited looks, unlike most players on the bubble for the first round who usually visit a lot of teams, and the medical reports go well, he has a chance to be part of a big-man rotation. The Clippers have been looking for more than a stop-gap as a third big man.

Yahoo! Sports – F Mitch McGary (Michigan)

The Clippers would add size, rebounding and a physical presence behind Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.

CBS Sports (Gary Parrish) – G Semaj Christon (Xavier)

There’s no guarantee Darren Collison will be back in LA next season, and I’ve always liked Christon. He’s a point guard with good size and a great first step.

CBS Sports (Zach Harper) – F Patric Young (Florida)

Remember watching them play Glen Davis minutes in the playoffs? Remember how Hedo Turkoglu and Danny Granger were stretch-4 options for them in the playoffs? Remember wondering if Ryan Hollins should play more? Patric Young starts giving them the big man depth to never ask those questions again

CBS Sports (Matt Moore) – F Jarnell Stokes (Tennessee)

They need someone nasty who can come off the bench and make an impact physically. Stokes is perfect here. Doc Rivers would do wonders.

ESPN.com (Chad Ford) – F Mitch McGary (Michigan)

The Clippers lack a lot of big bodies up front. There’s virtually no real depth behind Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. Had he not injured his back, McGary likely would’ve been a lottery pick this year. If he gets healthy, he provides instant toughness and hustle in the paint.
