With the 2013-14 NBA season over and the championship won–congratulations to the San Antonio Spurs–oddsmakers are already looking ahead, having released their odds for the 2015 NBA championships. And based on the numbers, the Clippers are in a pretty good position.
According to Bovada.lv, the Los Angeles Clippers have the fifth best odds to win the title in 2015 at 10/1. Ahead of the Clippers are the 2014 NBA Finals runner-ups in the Miami Heat (7/2 odds), the Western Conference finals losers in the Oklahoma City Thunder (5/1 odds), the 2014 champions in the San Antonio Spurs (13/2), and the Chicago Bulls (9/1 odds).
Considering Vegas’ odds incorporate future possibilities, this top-5 makes sense. If LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh return to Miami they’re automatically the favorites out East. Many expected Oklahoma City to represent the Western Conference prior Serge Ibaka‘s injury. Unless Tim Duncan retires, the Spurs remain in a nice position to shoot for a title repeat. And with the Bulls, Derrick Rose‘s health–and a possible Kevin Love/Carmelo Anthony acquisition-stands between the franchise being a title contender or second-round exit.
Of course, nothing in the NBA is guaranteed.
Two years back we thought the Oklahoma City Thunder would be a shoe-in for the NBA Finals following their 2012 appearance and the Chicago Bulls would be the team that’d eventually challenge the Heat for the Eastern Conference throne. Instead, James Harden was traded, Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka were hampered with injury in the playoffs while Derrick Rose has seen minuscule minutes since tearing his ACL in the opening round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs.
