NBA Mock Draft — After a year of aggressive tanking, the Philadelphia 76ers are in the position to claim their prize. And like the Milwaukee Bucks, their decision will depend on which two players are chosen prior to the third overall pick. If Joel Embiid and Andrew Wiggins are off the board, Jabari Parker is their guy. If Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker are off the board, Joel Embiid is their guy. If Jabari Parker and Joel Embiid are off the board, Andrew Wiggins is their guy. There’s an odd chance that Dante Exum could float into the equation, squeezing him beside Michael Carter-Wiliams, but at this point it’s hard predicting Sam Hinkie makes a reach of that proportion without farthing compensating past the draft.
Here is the collection of the latest mock drafts from around the NBA pertaining to the Philadelphia 76ers and the number three overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
NBA Draft Net – F Jabari Parker (Duke)
My NBA Draft – F Andrew Wiggins (Kansas)
Basketball Insiders (Steven Kyler) – F Andrew Wiggins (Kansas)
Draft Express (Jonathan Givony) – F Andrew Wiggins (Kansas)
Philadelphia very well may have taken Wiggins at #1 overall had the ping-pong balls fallen a little differently, so to get him at #3 has to be considered a major coup. He is both a terrific fit on their roster alongside building blocks Michael Carter-Williams and Nerlens Noel, and has significant potential to continue to improve thanks to his terrific combination of size, athleticism and scoring instincts.
Bright Side of the Sun – F Andrew Wiggins (Kansas)
The Sixers have wanted Wiggins for so long and they somehow get him even if they slipped one spot on lottery night. Playing with a real point guard is going to help him not have the ball all the time, and bringing in him and Noel fresh next season is going to give them two true defenders. Wiggins needs time, and a team that plays the fastest pace in the league and is rebuilding is the perfect spot for him.
Yahoo! Sports (Marc J. Spears) – F Andrew Wiggins (Kansas)
Backcourt of Wiggins and Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams could be a great one for a long time.
Bleacher Report (Donald Wood) – F Jabari Parker (Duke)
Most teams selecting No. 3 overall would be just on the cusp of getting a bona fide game-changer, but with the depth in this class the Philadelphia 76ers will have the chance to select Duke forward Jabari Parker, who is all of that and more.
CBS Sports (Matt Moore) – F Andrew Wiggins (Kansas)
Wiggins is their obvious choice and he very well could be here at this spot. With MCW, Nerlens Noel and Wiggins, they will have all of the length in all of the world
CBS Sports (Gary Parrish) – F Jabari Parker (Duke)
The Sixers, probably more than any other team, need players who can contribute immediately, and Parker fits that description. He’ll average 15 to 20 points as a rookie, and maybe more
CBS Sports (Zach Harper) – F Jabari Parker (Duke)
As tempting as it is to put Dante Exum here next to Michael Carter-Williams, Jabari Parker’s ability may be too hard to pass up. Parker will come in right away and be a really good scoring option at the 4. Put him next to Thaddeus Young (if he’s not traded) and Nerlens Noel and that’s a very solid, promising frontcourt.
ESPN Insiders (Jeff Goodman) – F Andrew Wiggins (Kansas)
The Sixers are actually in a no-lose situation with the third pick, with general manager Sam Hinkie getting whichever part of the Embiid, Wiggins, Parker trio falls in their lap. The need is a small forward, and Wiggins would fit in perfectly alongside two building block athletes: Michael Carter-Williams and Nerlens Noel.
ESPN Insiders (Chad Ford) – F Andrew Wiggins (Kansas)
This is a dream scenario for the 76ers. They would take Wiggins at No. 1 if they could, and having him fall to No. 3 would be a godsend. The Sixers actually have engaged the Cavs about moving to No. 1. They aren’t willing to give up both the Nos. 3 and 10 picks. But a combination of No. 3 and Thaddeus Young is a possibility. And it’s a great scenario for Wiggins, as well. Of the three top teams, his camp prefers the Sixers as the best possible fit. This could be a win-win for both. If Wiggins isn’t on the board for the Sixers, I’m told they’ll take whoever is left between Embiid and Parker. Dante Exum also isn’t out of the question here, but I hear he’ll need to wow them when he rolls into Philadelphia next week for his workout with them
