The Los Angeles Clippers have decided to bulk up thier already jam-packed backcourt with the acquisition of guard Delonte West to play in the NBA Summer League that tips off on July 11th in Las Vegas at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Most would assume that West won’t make the team as most don’t in the Summer League, but due to his ties with Clipper Head Coach Doc Rivers anything is possible.
During his lone season in China playing for Fujian Quanzho Bank, Delonte West had a great season, averaging 22.6 points and 5.4 rebounds.
West has bipolar disorder, which unfortunately has caused him to be make bad judgements in the past.. He was arrested and plead guilty to traffic and weapons-related charges in 2009. We shall see if his current talents trump all of his the other off-court antics.
Drafted 24th overall in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, West has averaged 9.7 points on 44.8 percent shooting (37.8 three point percentage), 2.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game over his nine year career. In those nine years, West has played for the Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Dallas Mavericks.
In his last NBA-related stint, West played for the Dallas Mavericks D-League affiliate Texas Legends where he averaged 10.2 points and 4.3 assists over an eight-game spurt.
