Donald Sterling has made it to primetime television.
Well not literally, but during the 2014 Billboard Awards, Justin Timberlake mentioned the Los Angeles Clippers owner during his acceptance speech.
This isn’t the first time Sterling has been made fun of on a big stage and due to how many people were affected by his words it surely won’t be the last time.
Timberlake taking his shot at Sterling in front of millions is a bit interesting to me, though I may be digging way deeper than I should be. A lot of people may not know this, but following the change in ownership from Michael Heisley to Robert Pera in 2012, Justin Timberlake (along with Ashley Manning, Anfernee Hardaway, and others) became a minority owner of the Memphis Grizzlies. While he doesn’t have a hand in the vote that could presumably remove Donald Sterling from the NBA forever, it’s bodes well for a man in his position to openly speak out against Sterling, informing more people of his ill-advised comments that were released by TMZ close to a month ago.
Throughout his career, Justin Timberlake has flashed a comedic side, mainly seen on Saturday Night Live. This is an example of such. It’s nice to see the non-sports world have something to say on a big stage.
