Shelly Sterling Had Hand in Choosing New Clippers CEO

While Donald Sterling has been banned form the Clippers indefinitely, his wife in Shelly Sterling has been all but invisible since the racist allegations appeared via TMZ. By her being married to Donald, she has her own percentage of ownership, and she’s been putting that power to use. Most recently, she had a hand in choosing the new CEO for the Los Angeles Clippers according to a statement released after the NBA announced Richard Parsons as interim:

“I conferred with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver this morning and endorsed the league’s choice of Richard Parsons as interim Chief Executive Officer of the Los Angeles Clippers. Mr. Parsons has impressive management credentials in the important fields of the media, finance and professional sports. He is an ideal choice to run the franchise until the ownership issues are clarified.”

As CEO, Richard Parsons will have the jurisdiction to do pretty much anything outside of making a decision in regards to ownership. Bringing in a fresh face is apart of the cleansing process the Clippers have put themselves through following the allegations that brought a dark cloud over the franchise.

Considering Shelly is still married to Donald, though the two were reportedly separated when the tape was revealed, it’s interesting to see how much weight her opinion holds. She’s acted oblivious to Donald’s racist remarks and has made the team her number one priority. With little proof, it’s unfair to state that Shelly’s motivation to be heavily involved in what the team decides to do from this point out is to make sure that her husband remains connected to the franchise, but things look a bit iffy, and considering her past of dressing as a housing official to figure out the racial information of tenants that lived on Donald’s property, it’d be ignorant to put anything past the two.

But for now, the playoffs is all that matters. The NBA, along with Shelly’s input, are making sure things are in place by the time the team hits the offseason. They’ve successfully separated the entity that is Donald Sterling from the Clippers and now they’ve put a knowledgeable face in place of running the franchise until this is all solved.

The real battle has yet to begin though.
