Here is something interesting to look at amid the Los Angeles Clippers Grammy’s road trip: according to all available media, Matt Barnes has replaced Jared Dudley in the starting lineup as the team takes on the Detroit Pistons.
Considering Dudley’s play on the season, something along the lines of underwhelming and underperforming, this doesn’t come as a shock to me. Both players are considered 3-and-D players and fit well into the starting lineup with or without Chris Paul, so it’s a bit of a shock. On the season Jared is averaging 8.7 points on 45 percent shooting from the field and and 37 percent from behind the arc, all lows after his last three years were the best of his career.
All-in-all, this is small news, but this move makes me wonder if the Clippers are of the idea that Dudley and his $4.25 million salary at the deadline to acquire to needed third big that could propel this team from pretender to contender. It’s something to ponder as Dudley has the talent to be a missing piece to a contender that needs a versatile three to bolster their chances going forward.
We’ll see what Doc Rivers has to say post-game about the switch.
