According to Doc Rivers the Los Angeles Clippers are still interested in free agent Lamar Odom.
“I’m going to keep talking to him. I don’t know what our plans are yet. I like Lamar. I want him to be in the NBA. And if things go right, here.
I also like Lamar Odom, but I’m not in favor of signing him at the moment. A lot of that has to due with Antawn Jamison playing in one game. Give him some burn, see what he brings and if he isn’t the power forward that you wanted when signed (one-year deal for the vets miminum), then you move on to Odom. Even then I think Odom should be the third forward looked at here with Jamison being the first and Chris Wilcox being the second. He knows Rivers defensive schemes. It’s been told that the team is keeping tabs on him. He brings height to a team that needs it and can play alongside DeAndre Jordan or Blake Griffin all while not sacrificing size for when you go up against the bigger teams like San Antonio and Memphis.
The weird part of all of this is how Rivers is speaking on Odom. It’s as if offering him a job just to see him in the NBA because it’s possible that no other team will is the goal here.
“…I just want him to do well at the end. Obviously if he does well, we’d like for it to be for us. But let’s say he doesn’t come here, and he does well in the NBA, I’d be just as happy, honestly. I look at a guy, and I think he’s a good guy, and he needs another shot.”
Depending on how Jamison plays in the next few games, that could be the deciding factor for Odom’s hiring. We’ll see.
