A tip away.
That’s what we as fans likely remember from the last matchup between the Los Angeles Clippers and Minnesota Timberwolves. In a high-scoring affair, Nikola Pekovic and Kevin Love were both a tip away from sending the game into overtime. Instead the Clippers walked away with a 109-107 victory behind Blake Griffin‘s 25 points.
Fast forward nine days and you have part dos of this matchup. Not much has changed since then. Both teams have won seven games on the season (Clippers 7-4, Wolves 7-5). Both are being led by the gameplay of their star power forward in Griffin and Love. Both are coming off games they probably should have won considering the expectations placed upon them this season.
The match ups are the same though that doesn’t take away from the entertainment aspect of things. You get to see the league’s top two passers matchup up in Chris Paul and Ricky Rubio. There aren’t many better shooters than J.J. Redick and Kevin Martin. The uber-athletic center in DeAndre Jordan takes on the intimidating Nikola Pekovic. And you have the two best power forward in the NBA taking on each other in Kevin Love and Blake Griffin.
The Clippers may have the upper hand as the Timberwolves are playing on the second night of a back-to-back (or as we like to call it, a SEGABABA). Fatigue is an issue. Effort will be an issue and if the bench doesn’t show up, it could be a long night for the Timberwolves. The Clippers, being noted as one of the best teams in the NBA, should well take advantage of this.
*Note: Matt Barnes will be inactive due to a left eye injury.
