Talk about anticlimactic.
According to multiple media sources Brooklyn Nets stars Paul Pierce, Deron Williams and Brook Lopez will all miss tonight’s matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Nets’ Williams (sprained left ankle), Pierce (sore left groin) & Lopez (sprained left ankle) all out tonight @ LAC. KG game-time decision.

With these three players out and possibly Kevin Garnett joining them, this makes an anticipated reunion between Doc Rivers and Pierce/KG just another match. Coming into tonight the Brooklyn Nets have been struggling mightily, so game itself was never the story. Seeing the head coach who led these two players to their first NBA championship since 2008 with the Boston Celtics was the headliner.
These injury issues combined with age are why some were skeptical picking the Nets are a championship contender. Williams hasn’t been himself for quite a while outside of the post-All Star break stretch last season and has been hampered with ankle injury. He’s averaging 10 points per game, his lowest since entering the NBA in 2005.
Pierce and Lopez being out are shockers. Both players lead the Nets in minutes per game and points per game. This is likely a case of Jason Kidd resting his two best players after an overtime victory over the Phoenix Suns last night.
And we’ve heard all the talk this past summer of Kidd potentially resting Garnett on the second night of back-to-backs. This could be a case of that.
Instead we’ll get to see players such as Shaun Livingston, Jason Terry, Andray Blatche and Mason Plumlee play big minutes against the Clippers starters. Get ready for the Joe Johnson (played 44 minutes last night and hit a game winner in overtime) show ladies and gentlemen.
