In the preseason loss to the Sacramento Kings Doc Rivers rested Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan while J.J. Redick (quad), Matt Barnes (calf) and Reggie Bullock (knee) remained out due to injury. This meant there would be more time allotted to backup point guard Maalik Wayns with Darren Collison inserted into the starting lineup.

Unfortunately for Wayns his day ended early with what the Clippers are calling a hyper-extended knee. He only saw eight minutes and 55 seconds of floor time before having to limp off the court and was checked out by the Athletic Trainer Jason Powell. Collison replaced him as he was the only point guard left available to play on the active roster.

It’s rather certain now that Wayns won’t make the roster if his injury keeps it him out for any length of time. This now leaves Brandon Davies and Lou Amundson fighting for the last roster spot. The Clippers may opt on signing a veteran free agent while cutting both Amundson and Davies. The decision is expected to be made in a few days as the team already has depth in the frontcourt.
