If you were utterly excited over the possibility that Gilbert Arenas had a shot at joining the Los Angeles Clippers after rumors of his supposed invite to training camp surfaced, back to the drawing board. What looked like a semi-story turned out to just be a big misunderstanding as Arenas cleared the air on the news:
While the casual fan may not know this because of the name that comes with the player I’ll be the first to tell you. Gilbert Arenas’ time in the NBA is over with. I watched Arenas extensively during his short time with the Memphis Grizzlies and he’s become a shell of his old self. Defensively he’s solid, but has become some sort of liability on the offense end.
Of course the last time he played in the NBA was during the 2011-12 season. He looks to be over those nagging knee injuries that started the demise of his young career and has played well for the Shanghai Sharks, but it’s still hard to judge if that talent will translate if he crossed back over.
It also helps that the Orlando Magic are paying Gilbert $22 million this year. I wouldn’t expect Gilbert to return back to the league. He’s doing perfect where he’s currently at.
