Clippers May Invite Agent “Zero” to Training Camp

The Los Angeles Clippers may invite  former NBA star Gilbert Arenas to mini-camp in San Diego CA according to Hoopsworld’s Alex Kennedy.

Arenas hasn’t played much basketball since his unfortunate legal issues in 2009-10. Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton had unloaded guns in the Washington Wizards locker room during a Christmas Eve argument regarding gambling debts.

He was then traded to the Orlando Magic who later waived the guard in 2011. Arenas signed a deal to play for the Memphis Grizzlies. Later in 2012, he joined the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association where he averaged 20.7 points per game.

Despite legal troubles getting Arenas a bad rep in the NBA, knee injuries kept the former Wizards star from keeping up with the Kobe Bryant‘s and Dwyane Wade‘s of the league. From 2003 to 2007 Arenas averaged 24.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists, something only four players did in that span (McGrady, James, Bryant). During that span he lead the Wizards to three straight playoff appearances (05-07).

Willie Green became guaranteed in the off-season, so he can no longer be waived. Maalik Wayns and Brandon Davies are the only two players eligible for waiving.

But I’ll tell you this. If Gilbert Arenas impresses during the preseason, not only will the Clippers sign him, it will also mark the inevitable: the Clippers will make a trade for a true defensive big man come the February deadline. With Arenas comes a logjam at the guard position, making Jamal Crawford expendable, and possibly DeAndre Jordan as well. Byron Mullens, Antawn Jamison and Ryan Hollins are an uninspiring cast of big men with big warts, but the value of Jordan and Crawford could bring back someone like Omer Asik, Tyson Chandler, Kendrick Perkins or possibly (loophole) Kevin Garnett.

      Hope you’re right man

Ill tell you this Arenas cant play anymore thats what the magic and the Grizzlies found out . Why in the world would Arenas impressing in the preseason make jamal Crawford expendable ? None of the current guards and even Arenas replaces what Jamal Crawford provides if the front office believed that for one second they wouldve traded him the moment they acquired JJ and Dudley. He has a extremely nice contract and Im sure he wouldve had plenty of suitors because of that .

The value of JJ and Dudley is that not only will they fill roles that help Blake and CP but they also blend well with Barnes and Crawford . They are not here to nudge them out but to build on the success we had last year.

If we didnt sign jamison I would have believed we would give Arenas a shot but with Willie,Collinson and Barnes where on earth would he ever hope to play let alone take minutes from Crawford,Dudley or JJ.

Gilbert Arenas going to LAC is exactly like Derek Fisher going to OKC, except Arenas can probably still play basketball.
