DeAndre Jordan Needs To Improve for the Clippers

We know we can depend on Chris Paul. We know Blake Griffin is a force. We know Jamal Crawford can score and we know that J.J. Redick can sink three point shots like no other. But we don’t know much about DeAndre Jordan. Vinny Del Negro limited his minutes last year and clearly he had no trust in his starting center.

For the Los Angeles Clippers to be successful this year, Doc Rivers will need a lot from DeAndre Jordan going forward. The key for the Clippers is their defense and Jordan has to be in charge of it. To make Rivers’ defense work, Lob City will need a rim-protecting big man to make it happen.

That’s where Jordan comes in place. He needs to be much better this year, and he has to learn to hit his free-throws. Last year he shot a miserable 36 percent. Being on the court during the waning minutes of the game will be important and his shooting may prevent that.

Jordan has been working on his game all offseason. He’s also spent the summer working out for Team USA’s mini-camp. So we expect to see a much better player this year because talent isn’t the question. He’s freakishly athletic and that’s why he was given a big contract. He has all the right tools to be one of the best centers in the league. Let’s see if he can do it with all the pressure on his back.
