Byron Mullens was the 24th overall pick in the 2009 draft leaving Ohio State after his freshmen season. It’s almost certain that the free agent center will not return to the Charlotte Bobcats next season. It looks as if Mullens is nearing an agreement on a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the proposed deal would include a player option for the 2014-15 season. It should be finalized by the end of this week at latest.
Several teams have been trying to add Mullens to their roster. The Los Angeles Lakers desperately wanted to add the 24 year old to add to their aging roster.
I believe Mullens is a great addition for the Los Angeles Clippers. They have done a great job retooling their roster this summer which includes re-signing All-Star point guard Chris Paul and acquiring J.J. Redick and Jared Dudley via trade.
Mullens averaged 10.4 points and 6.4 rebounds for the Charlotte Bobcats last season. He can play both the forward and center position. In his four NBA seasons, including two with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he’s averaged 8.4 points and 4.8 rebounds a game. Not to mention, Mullens can nail a three pointer every now and then. At 7 feet tall, he will be another great scoring option.
We’re all aware of the fact that playing with CP3 will only make you better. I’m definitely looking forward to watching the Clippers play next season. I think Doc Rivers and his staff can do a great job with this team.
