With the acquisitions of Darren Collison and J.J. Redick, the end chapter of Chauncey Billups time as a Los Angeles Clippers was written. According to Yahoo Sports, Billups will be returning to the Detroit Pistons on a two year deal.
The deal will be worth $5 million-plus for Billups, league sources said.Chauncey Billups in his glory days as a Piston. (Y! Sports)
Billups, 36, hopes to finish his career where it blossomed in the glory years of the Billups-Richard Hamilton-Ben Wallace Pistons of the mid-2000s. Billups will play the part of mentor for youngDetroit guard Brandon Knight, and be a rotation guard off the bench for Detroit.
Billups arrived in Los Angeles via bid after the New York Knicks amnestied the guard. He then spent his time in Los Angeles fighting several injuries including an acl injury that kept Billups out for majority of the 2012 season.
Now at the age of 36, he’ll return to the team where he won a NBA finals for in 2004. At the end of his contract he’ll likely retire which opens the possibility of him joining the coaching staff a la Rasheed Wallace or in the front office where he’s interested in joining.
