According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports Doc Rivers plans to have assistant coach Tyronn Lue join his coaching staff in Los Angeles.
The Clippers negotiated a five-year, $35 million deal with Rivers that could be worth as much as $8 million a year with bonus incentives, sources said. Rivers has arrangements to bring some Celtics support staff – including assistants coaches Tyronn Lue and Kevin Eastman, and possibly others – with him to Los Angeles, sources said.
Still pending NBA approval, the Los Angeles Clippers sent an unprotected 2015 NBA Draft pick to the Boston Celtics for the rights to former Clippers guard Glenn “Doc” Rivers as their head coach. Doc and the Clippers finalized a 3-year, $21 million deal
Tyronn was the head coach for the Boston Celtics Summer League team the last 2 seasons.
Sources say that Doc Rivers really likes Lue and could consider promoting him to bench assistant rather than losing him to another team in the NBA.
Tyronn Jamar Lue is a former NBA player. The point guard was selected out of the University of Nebraska by the Denver Nuggets with the 23rd overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft. He went to win an NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2001. In 2009, Lue became the Director of Basketball Development for the organization.
Lue is accustom to moving around in the NBA as he was traded along with Juwan Howard and Tracy McGrady to the Houston Rockets for Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato in 2003. He was traded two more times as well while playing in the NBA.
No Celtics assistant is under contract for next season, so there’s a chacne we could see an all-Celtics bench at the Staples Center.
