Talk about a coaching carousel. Reports show that the Boston Celtics have an interest in former Los Angeles Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro:

Two league sources with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed yesterday that if Rivers does indeed leave, former Clippers coach Vinnie Del Negro will receive serious consideration as his replacement.

“As a stopgap for that situation, sure,” said one source. “Vinnie would be the perfect person for what they need. All of the all-star coaches, or whatever you want to call them, are going, and knowing how Danny feels about him, (Del Negro) would be a good fit.”

While Del Negro isn’t the perfect coach for a team whose goal is to win a championship nor is he the best available coach on the market, he’d be decent on a team that’s developing young players in the midst of a re-build which is where the Celtics may be headed soon.

Del Negro recently coached the Clippers to their best season in franchise history winning 56 games. Their season ended in the first round losing to the Memphis Grizzlies in 5 games.
