Look for soon-to-be free agent Chauncey Billups to show interest in the Miami Heat this offseason as he spoke to Fox Sports South about his future:
“Of course, I would have interest in Miami, of course,’’ Billups told FOX Sports Florida after having received the NBA’s inaugural Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award prior to Sunday night’s Game 2 of the NBA Finals at AmericanAirlines Arena.
“I’m wide open,’’ Billups said. “Free agent means free.’’
“Absolutely, I could help them,’’ Billups said before the Heat faced San Antonio after having lost the Finals opener last Thursday

Before Billups signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Miami Heat showed a lot of interest in the NBA Finals MVP. Heading into next season the Heat have both Mario Chalmers ($4 million) and Norris Cole ($1.1 million) under contract next season meaning there’s no room at the point guard position. Even at the two, a position that Billups has frequently played since joining the Clippers, there isn’t space as the Heat have Mike Miller, Dwyane Wade and Ray Allen under contract. All whom are better than Billups.
Billups isn’t the player he was two years ago. He’s approaching age 37 and has been a shell of himself since tearing his ACL. Compared to all of the guards the Heat deploy, he’d easily be the worst of the bunch meaning playing time will be at an extreme minimum. He’ll likely remain a Clipper if he decides to continue his basketball career, but he can put the his dreams of joining the Miami Heat behind him. It isn’t happening.
