While in city of Miami during the NBA Finals, Los Angeles Clippers shooting guard Chauncey Billups appeared on ESPN’s First Take. Alongside Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless, Billups had a chance to speak about his future as a Los Angeles Clipper, his opinion on whether Chris Paul is returning next year, whether he’d take up a head coaching position and if Blake Griffin is as “soft” as the media and other players think he is.
Recently winning the Teammate of the Year award, this will be an interesting offseason for Billups. He’ll be 37 before the year ends and isn’t the player he once was in his hey-day. He has dealt with injuries for the past two seasons including tearing his ACL in 2011. Now as an unrestricted free agent, it’s not clear what his market will be. He spoke on wanting to win a championship on First Take, but of all the sure-fire contenders, the Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder, Indiana Pacers and the San Antonio Spurs, they don’t have a need for Billups. His best bet will likely be a back-up position a la Jason Kidd last season, but I’d put my money on him returning to the Clips on a vets minimum.
