DeAndre Jordan gets a second chance

Everyone believes Chris Paul wanted Vinny Del Negro fired and that could be true. But I’m sure Paul wasn’t the only guy who wanted him gone. I haven’t heard any other player campaign for Vinny Del Negro. Enough about CP3, he’s the best point guard in the NBA and he can do whatever he wants as a free agent. I’m sure he’ll stay with the Los Angeles Clippers if he thinks they can win a championship. For this team to win a championship, they’ll need a lot more from everyone else.

DeAndre Jordan has been with the Clippers since 2008 and at 24, he still has more room to develop as an NBA center. He clearly has the most upside with a new head coach. Vinny Del Negro preferred splitting Jordan’s minutes with Turiaf and Odom this year. He also only played 27.2 minutes per game in the 11-12 season and even that was more than the 24.5 minutes per game he played during this season. Among all starting centers, only Denver’s Kostas Koufos played fewer minutes per game this season.

An experienced coach such as Jeff Van Gundy or Alvin Gentry could give DeAndre a new lease of life, confidence is vital to any player. We saw what Mark Jackson did with the Golden State Warriors, he believed in his team and it worked. If the coach can believe in a player with potential, then the sky is the limit. DJ is extremely athletic, and I’d like to see what he can do with a bigger role next season.
