The Los Angeles Clippers are in talks with the Orlando Magic for a possible Eric Bledsoe – Arron Afflalo swap, and this could be good or bad for the Clippers. The only reason they’re holding onto Bledsoe so tightly is because there is a 0.01% chance that Chris Paul doesn’t return and re-sign with the Clips. Without Bledsoe, the Clippers don’t even have a decent point guard (unless they draft one) to start for them. If Paul does return, however, the Clippers will be even deeper.
Afflalo is a scorer, we all know this. He was a star in Denver and then he slowly broke out in Orlando, becoming their primary scorer. Why did this happen? Because nobody else is around in Orlando to help him out. He had heart, yes, but without Glen Davis, the Magic had absolutely no possibility of returning to the playoffs after losing Dwight Howard. Afflalo would be a great acquisition for the Clippers, who aren’t looking to re-signing Chauncey Billups.
This leaves the shooting guard spot wide open. If the Clippers don’t re-sign Billups, they’re losing a decent point guard who gets injured a lot, but can hit the big shot when he needs to, hence the nickname “Mr. Big Shot”. Afflalo, however, is a young guy with a lot of potential, a guy who would be able to average a steady 15 points per game along Chris Paul. The Clippers are a team of great shooters with Butler, and adding Afflalo would spread the floor and only help them more in hurting defenders. This opens up the post for guys like Blake Griffin. Afflalo could easily fit into the Clippers’ rotation.
Verdict: Afflalo-Bledsoe Deal would be perfect for the Clippers, provided CP3 Re-signs
