Was Donald Sterling in San Antonio Scouting Lionel Hollins?

During game 1 of the Western Conference finals, Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was spotted courtside as the San Antonio Spurs dismantled the Memphis Grizzlies. Of course the rumors began to fly as to why Sterling was there:

If this rumor is a tad bit true it’s an improvement Clipper fans, but it may not be the improvement that this organization needs. As a Grizzlies fan I’ve seen the ins and outs of Lionel Hollins as a coach since his third tenure as the head coach of that team. Is he better than Vinny Del Negro? Of course he is (though Del Negro severly out-coached Hollins in the 2011-12 playoffs), but this team has a chance of nabbing a bonafide coach such as a Stan Van Gundy, Byron Scott or a Jerry Sloan if the two parties show a bit of interest toward each other.

The difference between the aforementioned coaches and Lionel Hollins will likely be the price tag. While Hollins is likely driving up his price-tag with each series the Griz win, he’ll probably still be cheaper than Stan, Jerry and Byron and well all know of Sterling’s history of being, well, cheap as an owner.

ProBasketballTalk reports that Del Negro and Sterling could be meeting this weekend to decide Vinny’s fate as the head coach of the Clippers. Once a formal decision is made, the front office can look work on either improving the roster while going ahead with VDN or beginning their search for a new head coach. Just know that come the end of the Grizzlies season, Sterling may be in the races to lure Hollins away from Memphis if he decides to test the market.
