The Los Angeles Clippers and Boston Celtics seasons haven’t been over for more than two weeks and the rumors have already begun.
This time it’s Stephen A. Smith of ESPN First Take driving the train on this one. According to him there are rumors of the Celtics and Clippers making a blockbuster trade that would include Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett heading to Los Angeles while Blake Griffin, Caron Butler and Eric Bledsoe head to Boston.
Before you wonder if these things are possible here’s a tweet to put things into perspective:
Spoke w a celtics source about the Stephen a smith story..their one word response to it? Absurd!

Let’s be real here. This trade doesn’t make any sense. Doc Rivers in Los Angeles would be phenomenal, but that would require permission from Danny Ainge to leave the organization and that seems highly unlikely. Also trading to young pieces in Griffin and Bledsoe for two players who often looked like they were ready to retire in Pierce and Garnett isn’t a smart move. Both players are over the hill. Is one season of Pierce/Garnett better then the next ten with a Blake Griffin who’s a top 25 NBA player and Eric Bledsoe who’s gonna be a pivotal piece come the 2014 trade deadline?
Also with Vinny Del Negro likely out, that almost kills this rumor since he was the spearhead behind the Bledsoe/DeAndre Jordan for KG package around All-Star break earlier in the season.
Take these talks however you want them, but don’t expect anything to actually surface until the Clippers front-office decide on the fate of Del Negro and that probably won’t be for a few weeks.
