After the game 5 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, Chris Paul and Vinny Del Negro spoke about Blake Griffin‘s ankle injury that kept him from playing in the fourth quarter.
“It’s tough. It’s tough. But I think Lamar Odom did a great job stepping up into the spot. It’s gonna be by committee. You can’t just replace Blake Griffin with one person. It’s gonna be by committee so we may have to go small, open the court up, get those bigs up and away from the basket. See if we can keep Marc Gasol out the lane.”
“We’ll see. Just an unfortunate thing that happened yesterday. Well, just a freak accident that he came down, I believe Lamar’s foot, and got an ankle sprain. A pretty bad one. I give Blake a lot of credit. He’s got a lot of swelling in there, but he got therapy all night and therapy all day. He battled through it. He came out it limited minutes, made a couple baskets, 5 assists, 5 rebounds. He was active, but as the game went on it just got, obviously, fatigued, sore, worse and worse. You could see him there in the third. He was struggling to move a little bit. That’s she I just pulled the plug on that. It didn’t make sense. Really wanted to protect him, make sure he was alright, but I give him a lot of credit for being out there because he did pretty good and I know how hard he’s worked. It’s just unfortunate timing and a very difficult one to deal with, but you have to and that’s what thrown at you.”
