David Courtney, the public address announcer was in his 3rd season with Los Angeles Clippers, died today, according to the Los Angeles Angeles of Anaheim. He announced Angels games since 1994. Courtney also announced Kings games since 1989. He was 54.
Courtney holds the distinction of being the announcer for the 2002 NHL All-Star Game at Staples Center and the 2010 MLB All-Star Game at Angel Stadium.
Courtney lived in Mission Viejo with his wife, Janet.
Courtney died from a pulmonary embolism, a blockage of the main artery of the lung or one of its branches by a substance that has travelled from elsewhere in the body.
Courtney took over long time Current Dodger & Clipper PA announcer Eric Smith back in 2009. Courtney was Smith’s back up so he was next in line for the position once Smith left the seat.
Eric Smith was back in the PA seat last night for the Clippers win over the Timberwolves.
