Jamal Crawford has now joined the Los Angeles Clippers, and he likes the direction the team is going in.
“I think everything that this organization stands for, the direction they are going,” said Crawford, who turned 32 in March. “I think they were the perfect team for me because I’m not too young or too old, I’m right in the middle of my career and these guys aren’t too young or too old as a team. They have the perfect pieces to continue to get better.”
“It feels really good to be on the same team with those guys,” Crawford continued. “Chris was actually the first person to call me, him and Chauncey, saying how much they wanted me here. Then Blake called me as well, so when you have the top dogs like that calling you saying they want you on the team it makes you feel good. It makes you feel respected and you definitely respond to that. For me, seeing everything from top to bottom, it was a no brainer.”
The Clippers beat Jamal Crawford’s previous team, the Portland Trail Blazers, 3 times out of 4 last year. The Clippers success last year was due mainly to Chris Paul’s effectiveness on the court, and he is excited about the addition of Crawford as well.
“Jamal adds another dimension to our team,” he said. “He’s a great player, a great guy and I’m excited for the opportunity to play alongside him on the court.”
Vinny Del Negro added: “Jamal is a veteran who wants to win and wants to be here. We both felt this was the best situation for him and the best place for him to continue to grow as a player and a leader.”
Crawford will probably come off the bench for this squad, but it is a bench that is rounding out nicely with Lamar Odom recently signing as well. The Clippers have done well in the abscence of Neil Olshey and continue to build a contender.
