The Washington Wizards sent JaVale McGee and Ronny Turiaf to the Denver Nuggets and Nick Young to the Los Angeles Clippers. In return, the Wizards will receive Brazilian center Nene from Denver and forward Brian Cook and a second-round pick from the Clippers.
As a long time Wizards follower, I can say this much, Nick Young can score. What else he can do I am not quite sure, but the Clippers might not need him to do much other than that.
Microwave scores are a rare regular season commodity, because they come in most handy during the playoffs. That’s convenient for the Clippers. because it is exactly what they need off the bench. Mo Williams is still in the running for Sixth Man of the Year for his bench scoring, but the Clippers need another threat as well, and in Nick Young they get a potentially prodigious offensive talent in the last year of his contract. Basically, if the Clippers don’t like what they see, they can cut him loose after this year.
It is certainly a mutual trade as far as the Wizards are concerned, who have been trying to move Javale McGee and Nick Young for a while now to help with locker room chemistry. The Wizards also add Nene, a more mature Center for the look the Wizards will be looking for next year. Young played his college ball at USC, and will likely enjoy being in Southern California for the rest of the year and possibly beyond.
