I Believe In VDN

After last night’s post/rant, I went on to more deep Clippers thinking and I want to change my position on Vinny Del Negro.  Yes I think he is a horrible coach right now and makes some pretty awful rotations and sets but the one thing he does is push a team that is bound to nowhere into somewhere.  He did that with the Derrick Rose teams for the last two years and I believe he can do it again with the Clippers.  Both seasons that the Bulls had under VDN started out really slow and under .500.  But they were able to make it into .500 and into the playoffs by the time the season ended.  I’m not saying he can do that leading the Clippers because the West is stacked and playoffs looks out of the picture unless something miraculous happens in the next several months.

Right now the young players are playing some of their best basketball.  Eric Gordon looks like an all star while Blake Griffin is living up to most of his hype and then some.  Eric Bledsoe is the obvious future point guard and Aminu has a bright future.  Even DeAndre Jordan is playing some excellent basketball right now as the starting center.  Yes, there are many mistakes being made on the floor but that’s just learning the game.  And I believe this is all because of Vinny Del Negro, the coach who turned Derrick Rose into an all star and Joakim Noah into one of the best pure centers in the league.  This is also the coach who turned a low draft pick of Taj Gibson into a serviceable power forward.  This is also the same coach who turned a Bulls team that kept getting depleted of shooters, scorers, and big contracts for the Lebron race into a team that can compete in the playoffs.

People have also forgotten that this is Vinny’s third year as a head coach.  He had no prior experience with coaching before he became the head coach for the Bulls.  He was just a point guard for the Spurs back in the nineties.  But he can fire up the team which is what we need the most.  When the season is lost and there is no reason to play anymore besides development, this team needs someone who can make them keep going and keep playing their brains out, and this is why I believe in VDN.
