The ’09-’10 NBA schedule was released yesterday, and everyone seems to be pouring over it to glean any information possible (although more likely it’s just that NBA news has died down and writers are scrounging for anything they can find). In the spirit of having nothing better to say, I give you the following tidbits:
-This year the Clips are on national tv eight times! Seems more than just the Clipper Nation think the team will improve and be interesting this year. Thank you Blake Griffin!
-By comparison, Houston does not have a single game on national tv (presumably because Yao might miss the whole season, TMac will miss the beginning, and Artest is on the Lakers now). It’s actually kind of a slap in the Rockets’ face since the only other teams with no tv appearances are New Jersey, Sacramento, Milwaukee, Charlotte & Memphis.
-On the other end of the spectrum, I believe the Lakers have the most appearances with 16. Considering they won the championship and we only won the lottery, I’d say we did pretty well.
-Two of the Clips’ national tv appearances are big nights: the first is opening night, Oct 27th against the Lakers, and the second is part of the big Christmas day line-up where they go up against Phoenix.
-People tend to see how many back-to-backs their team has ‘cuz obviously you have less time to rest and thus are more likely to be tired in the second of those games. Unfortunately, the Clips are near the top of the list with 22 of ‘em. Only three teams (Bobcats, Bulls & Pistons) have more (23). Five other teams also have 22 (Hawks, Pacers, Rockets, Nuggets, & Bucks).
-My biggest disappointment in the Clippers’ schedule last year was that The Dirty Coward Elton Brand’s first (&only) return was on New Year’s eve at like 6:30, and as much as I wanted to boo his butt off, I didn’t wanna spend my New Year’s Eve doing that. Didn’t seem like a very positive celebration to ring in the new year. Plus it’d be over be midnight so then I’d have to scramble to find something else to quickly do before the clock struck. As luck would have it, Brand was wonderfully cut down by injury again last year missing most of the season and his Staples Center return date. That meant I’d have a shot again this year! So when does he come to town this time? The EXACT same friggin’ day! What’s up with Philly & New Years in LA!? Yes, this Short White Boy is bitter.
