Clippers Let Mike Taylor Go! (& salary cap explanations)
Good thing I didn’t choose Mike Taylor as one of my first players to profile on the Clips, ‘cuz he’s gone. In a side note on an ESPN article about the Bucks waiving Bruce Bowen, I found this tiny mention of Taylor (along with others): Bowen was one of five NBA players waived Friday, joining Boston guard Gabe Pruitt, Los Angeles Clippers guard Mike Taylor, Los Angeles Lakers swingman Sun Yue and fellow Buck Salim Stoudamire. One’s first thought is that it must be for financial reasons, but nope, Taylor was due the minimum salary for a one-year player, $736,420. [...]
Clipper Player Profile: Chris Kaman
It seems as though everyone’s given up on Kaman and are just focusing on the Clippers’ youth movement in the years to come built around Eric Gordon and Blake Griffin. Forget down the road, right now they have one of the few good centers in the entire league. One who can play both sides of the court. And he’s only 27. However, because he missed 26 games in ’07-’08, and then a whopping 51 last season, people assume he’s done. That he was a flash in the pan like Michael Olwakaanummommanandadi. The big German-American who everyone likes to call Caveman [...]
New Laker Ron Artest re-enacts Pistons/Pacers brawl
“Crazy, meet Ron Artest. Ron, meet Crazy.” “Oh, you guys know each other?” “Since you were kids??” “Wow, best friends, huh? I don’t suppose you have any pictures or videos of the two of you?” “Excellent. So let’s set this up Tonight Show-style. In this clip you and Crazy have gone to China, and you re-enact your infamous brawl to some gal named Shin Shin as random passersby recognize you and take photos with you while you keep on plowing through the tale. Now where does it take place?” “Did I hear you right? This is outside of some odd [...]
Lamar Odom & Marvin Williams signed by Lakers & Hawks
ESPN reports Lamar Odom has finally agreed to return to the Lakers: One source with knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com the four-year deal is worth $33 million if the Lakers exercise the final season. One source close to the process said Odom will come away with a guaranteed $27 million from the new contract, matching the original value of the three-year, $27 million deal Lakers owner Jerry Buss pulled off the table earlier this month. It’s believed that the structure of the new deal calls for Odom to earn $25 million over the first three seasons, with the Lakers [...]
Clippers’ Player Profile: Eric Gordon
Eric Gordon started the season off on the bench behind Cuttino Mobley. In his 13 games off the bench he averaged 4.5 points on 32.6% shooting in 13.6 minutes with 1.2 turnovers. Then Mike Dunleavy traded Cat Mobley and dead weight Tim Thomas to the Knicks for Mr. Bad Attitude (no, not Mr. T’s A-team character B.A., I’m talkin’ Zach Randolph here). Many in Clipperland weren’t too happy about this, however a sometime-not-discussed aspect to the trade is that it freed up the reins for Eric Gordon to cut loose. As a starter in 64 games, Gordon got nearly triple [...]
NBA Trades: Summer Box Office-style, Part III, The Final Chapter — This Time It’s Personal
For those of you who missed the first two parts, click here for Part I and here for Part II. The Costly Underachiever Film: Angels & Demons This $150 million dollar sequel has tons of action and special effects to keep you distracted, but in the end, it’s $132 million dollar gross is a disappointment. After you add in the worldwide box office plus the eventual DVD sales, it’ll definitely make money. Another installment is even in development. However, that pales compared to how The DaVinci Code (both as book and as film) caught all the right breaks, enabling it [...]
Say it ain’t so, Blake! Apparently, our savior Blake Griffin has already been felled by the Clipper Injury Curse. He strained his shoulder and will be out 3-4 weeks. Please, please, please, don’t let this be a precursor to anything. Just when I thought we were safe from the Curse Gods, they drag us back in.
Clips & Bits 7/21/09
Since I’ve been gone a bit, here are some links from elsewhere during the past week: -Kevin Arnovitz talks about how impressive Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon look when they burst onto the Summer League scene: Last night’s showcase of Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon at the Thomas & Mack Center should have been the halcyon moment in the Clippers’ rebirth as a franchise. With the Clippers’ brass beaming on the sideline, the team’s featured 20-year-old offensive stars ran a clinic, establishing themselves as one of the league’s most potent big-small duos. The end of the article also features all [...]
Q Richardson Traded (again) for Telfair & others
Man, Quentin Richardson must spell his name “H-o-t P-o-t-a-t-o.” The Clips just sent him to the Minnesota Timberwolves, meaning the dude will have been on 4 teams in the last month. That’s crazy. Has a player ever been traded 3 times in such rapid succession and without ever playing a single game? Ooh, I wonder if the poor guy actually searched for places to live in each city and bought a house? Okay, he probably never bought a house in Memphis, ‘cuz who wants to be there long-term, but when he learned he was back in his old stomping grounds [...]
Mailbag Question: Signing Inverson worthwhile?
Hello all, Sorry for the lack of posts, but I’m in Bermuda for the week. However I’ve managed to find a wi-fi spot, so here I am at 1am in Bermuda, a dark beach out in front of me, giving you my thoughts on the possibility of the Clips signing Iverson. In comments from another post, my friend Rich says: Iverson negotiating with the Clips for a 1 year deal?! Sure, the man can score, and he gives a tremendous amount of effort. But, what does he offer the Clippers – who are clearly (almost perpetually) in a state of [...]
