Four Days To Salvation!

by Clippers

Yes, this Thursday is the NBA draft, and it seems almost a sure thing that the Clips will pick the only can’t miss prospect of the year: Blake Griffin. Even better, word is that not only are they not really listening to trade offers for him, but they do seem to be seeking trades for Zach Randolph, which’d not only give Griffin a starting spot but would also get rid of a player who can’t see half the court (y’know, that whole side where he’s supposed to play defense).

It’s kinda weird to know the date of salvation. Normally yer salvation kinda sneaks up on ya and surprises you. On one hand, I guess advance notice is always good, but on the other hand, doesn’t that just set you up for disappointment? Best case scenario is that things turn out as you hoped, but even then, there’s no excitement from surprise, it’s just like, nice, things did work out. But if things don’t turn out perfectly, everything then feels like complete failure. Like if Griffin ends up only making one All-Star game in his career and only gets the Clips to one winning season, we’d be like ehhh. But that’s ‘cuz he’s supposed to be the answer to all our prayers. Versus if say Eric Gordon does those exact same things, us Clips fan will still be talking about him to our grandkids when we’re sittin’ on the porch swing sippin’ old timey lemonade (and man will our grandkids be embarrassed: “Gramps, shhh. If someone overhears you’re a Clippers fan they’ll assume you’ve lost it and will put you in an old age home.”)

For me, expectations are everything. When I go see a movie, it’s all about going in with the right expectations. Like if I know I’m going to see a dumb Will Farrell movie or superhero action flick, I don’t expect much except for stupid jokes or cool action. It can have an awful, unbelievable script with two-dimensional characters, but none of that will bother me. The only question is: did it make me laugh?(uh, assuming we’re talking about a comedy — it ain’t usually a good thing if I laugh at an action movie). On the other hand, if I go to see the latest Marty Scorsese, Coen Brothers, Wes Anderson, Clint Eastwood flick, I expect the world. I may end up saying that a film like “Forrest Gump” that wins several Academy Awards sucks, versus raving about trash like “Wanted” (by the way, really cool different special effects — check it out).

Where am I going with all this? I dunno. Honestly, the whole point of this post was just going to be to tell you that since the draft is this Thursday, I may not be posting new pages ‘cuz I’mna be updating my mock draft throughout the week. Guess I got lost along the way. Good thing I didn’t title this blog entry “No New Posts Likely This Week” ‘cuz then y’all woulda read this with completely wrong expectations.

Ooh, if you're mentioning the #4 pick that means you're a Sacramento fan, so then I totally feel for you. Although I think there's a decent chance Rubio could fall to #4 and I think he'll be a stud. Him and Kevin Martin would be quite the guard combo.

Forgive me if I'm jealous. :(
